A fishing trip turned tragic in Kanchibiya District on the evening of 1st May 2025 when 38-year-old Evans Mwaba Musenga drowned in full view of his teenage son.
The incident happened in Chilongwe Stream around 18:00 hrs, when Musenga and his 15-year-old son went fishing in two separate canoes.
Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer, Denis Moola, confirmed the incident to ISOFM News.
“Brief facts of the matter are that the deceased was in a canoe with his son, aged 15. While fishing, the father’s canoe capsized, and he never resurfaced,” Mr. Moola said.
Seeing his father drown, the boy rushed home in panic to alert his mother, who then mobilised other villagers for a search.
The villagers efforts that evening were in vain, it wasn’t until the dawn when Musenga’s body was found and retrieved around 06:30 hours.
Police have advised the family to proceed with burial and mark the grave for possible exhumation, as no foul play is suspected.
