POLICE in Lundazi have arrested a 29-year-old man, Enock Banda, in connection with the murder of his step-grandmother, Febby Chirwa, of Chiphanzi compound in Chief Mphamba’s area.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the arrest stating that the victim’s half-naked body was discovered four days ago inside the house she shared with her 21-year-old son, Mathias Msimuko.
Mr. Mweemba indicated that post-mortem results revealed that the cause of death was internal bleeding in the head.
Mr. Mweemba explained that police investigations revealed Banda had earlier broken into Msimuko’s house between the night of May 4 and morning of May 5, 2025, and stole several items, including a mattress. He said when the theft was traced back to Banda, the deceased confronted him, prompting him to threaten her life.
The Commanding Officer further disclosed that on the night of May 5, 2025, Banda allegedly attempted to break into her house but was unsuccessful.
Mr. Mweemba said Banda returned the following night, managed to open the door, and brutally attacked her with an iron bar, which has since been recovered by police.
Banda is currently in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon.
