Evangelical alliance praises Hichilema for humility, building bridges during Pope’s funeral
THE Evangelical Youth Alliance has commended President Hakainde Hichilema for his decision to participate in the Pontifical Mass of late Pope Francis at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus.
On Friday, President Hichilema paid his final respects to Pope Francis who passed away after a long and fruitful life, by attending the pontiff’s funeral mass.
Alliance president, Reverend Moses Lungu expressed his admiration for the president’s humility and commitment to fostering understanding, applauding him for setting an example of inclusivity and openness.
Rev Lungu noted that despite potential criticism from the church, president Hichilema demonstrated his ability to engage with a range of viewpoints and showed his willingness to be open minded.
He stated that by participating in the mass, President Hichilema demonstrated that he was a leader who valued humility and inclusivity which fosters a more tolerant and understanding environment within Zambia.
He added that Hichilema’s presence at the Catholic church signified his desire to act as a bridge-builder between different communities, highlighting the crucial role that dialogue and cooperation can play in resolving conflicts or bridging gaps between diverse groups.
“Such humility and empathy are crucial characteristics for any effective leader, his
actions offer a valuable lesson in leadership that true leaders prioritize humility, respect, and inclusivity, even when faced with adversity,” he said.
Reverend Lungu added that President Hichilema’s decision to attend the funeral mass exemplifies that he is a true leader and serves as a shining example for others to emulate.
