The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has approved 62 license applications and eight construction permits across Zambia’s petroleum, electricity, and renewable energy sectors, paving the way for an estimated investment inflow of K11 billion (approximately $370 million).
According to a statement released by the ERB on Tuesday, the approvals are expected to significantly boost infrastructure development and energy capacity nationwide.
Among the most prominent projects is the 330 kilovolt Kalumbila-Kolwezi Interconnector Project (KKIP), a transformative $270 million initiative aimed at linking Zambia’s power grid with that of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The board also approved licenses for the transportation of petroleum products, which will see the addition of 114 new road fuel tankers to the country’s fuel distribution network. This move is anticipated to improve fuel logistics and supply security.
The latest approvals come amid a broader push by Zambia to diversify its energy mix, modernize grid infrastructure, and attract private sector participation in energy delivery.
